Re: Reader DC not uninstalling during install of Acrobat DC Standard

In a remote session with an Adobe Tech Support engineer we discovered the issue was caused by the version of install media I was using. This was downloaded from the Adobe Volume License site in August of 2015 and the install files were dated 3.18.15. Updated to the 12.18.15 version of the installers and now Reader DC does uninstall as the last part of the install procedure, when using setup.exe to perform the install and with the customization wizard settings selected for Reader to be uninstalled.

Thanks for commenting, Bianca.

What does Adobe engineering recommend as a workaround? Can the MSI be manually corrected?

SteveK2010, how do you know it's the MSI and not CW? Have you found a way to fix the MSI manually?

Thanks.

I cracked open the MSI using ORCA and I can see the issue.  I'm using Powershell to correct the name of the key after the MSI is installed.  I'm not actually modifying the MSI itself.

Move-Item -Path "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\``[RegistryHiveName``]\Installer\Migrate\*" -Destination 'HKLM:\Software\Wow6432Node\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\DC\Installer\Migrate' -force

You can customize your deployment as suggested, in an already installed Reader 11 setting this key to 0 removes the "Tools" option in the right panel: bEnableAcrobatHS

Find the related information and all the implications of this configuration on the Adobe XI doc:

Did you ever get an answer for this?  Here we are 6 months later and I am experiencing the exact same problem.  I am installing DC using SCCM and it installs fine, but the Protected View and Privileged Locations settings do not carry over into the installation.  Some settings do carry over, so I know the MST file is being read.  Also, if I open the MST file in Notepad, I can see some of the Privileged Location URL's listed so I know the info is in there, but it isn't getting used during the install.

Re: Adobe Reader Default PDF Handler Process

While comparing the registry of the PowerPDF install vs the Default PDF Handler process I believe I was able to find the solution to the issue- it is the result of the PowerPDF install deleting a registry key.

With Adobe XI installed, prior to PowerPDF, the following key exists:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\MIME\Database\Content Type\application/pdf

It contains the following strings:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\MIME\Database\Content Type\application/pdf\Extension: ".pdf"

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\MIME\Database\Content Type\application/pdf\CLSID: "{CA8A9780-280D-11CF-A24D-444553540000}"

During the PowerPDF install I confirmed the entire key for HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\MIME\Database\Content Type\application/pdf is deleted even though PowerPDF is set not to be the default in their customization wizard. I was able to see that running the Adobe "Select Default PDF Handler" adds it back, fixing the issue. Thankfully adding registry keys back are an easy fix.

Re: Adobe Acrobat DC Application Maintenance popup

Hi Ben,

Sorry for the delay. I was out all last week for training.

I created a VM and have replicated the issue successfully.

Acrobat Pro DC was pushed to the VM. This VM ran all last week while I was out without the above maintenance window popping up.

Using the K1000 system to push updates, I updated all the software. The window is now popping up.

I have snapshotted the system to this level so I can experiment with any option and revert at any time.

Ideas?

BTW, KACE K1000 Systems Management Appliance | Dell Software is a Kace.

Adobegc log files filling up hard disk

When creating APP-V5 package for Adobe Acrobat DC enterprise deployment, I noticed after deploying and testing the package if I leave the machine like that, by next day my entire hard disk space is gone.

I noticed the cause is AdobeGCclient.exe which is creating continuous 4GB log files under [users]\temp folder until entire hard disk space is consumed.

When I browsed I did not find a valid solution yet

Anyone, please let me know the fix for this

Here is the screenshot of the log files..

Protected Mode is not connected to startup. It's either always on or always off. If you disable PM via the UI or a registry key, it will always be disabled and the setting will not change on startup.

hth,
