Thanks for the prompt replies and candidness. Apologies for any confusion with the odd naming conventions. Thanks for setting the record straight for others.
I agree: The dialog does indicate we're talking about Acrobat & not Reader. And although we do have Acrobat Standard & Pro in our environment, its not installed on either workstation: the user's or mine.
Oddly, I can reproduce this with several PDF's on both the user's machine & my own; even on newly downloaded PDF's:
- Go to google.com
- search for the following: snort a.c.i.d. pdf
- First result should take you here http://ptgmedia.pearsoncmg.com/imprint_downloads/informit/perens/01314 07333.pdf
- Opens fine
- Save a copy locally (desktop to keep things simple) using whatever default file name was in there (it should be something like 0131407333.pdf or 0131407333[1].pdf)
- Open saved file - opens fine
- Rename file to just "DCRA" - doesn't open
- Rename file to just "dcra" - opens
- Rename file to "0131407333 DCRA" - doesn't open
- Rename file to "0131407333 dcra" - opens
- Rename file to "0131407333DCRA" - doesn't open
- Rename file to "0131407333dcra" - opens
- Renamed it to "file DCRA" (just because) - doesn't open
Screenshot of the actual file, Adobe Reader splash screen & error message
Just to show that I don't have Adobe Acrobat installed - just Reader
Its nonsensical.
