Re: Acrobat 11.0.09 With IE11 - Not Compatible With Enhanced Security

Hi!

I have a similiar problem in my organisation. Every computer has Acrobat Reader installed and some also have Acrobat standard/professional DC 12.

The users who have both Acrobat Reader _and_ Acrobat get an error message when trying to open a pdf in InternetExplorer 11 (32 -bit)

"Adobe Acrobat does not support Internet Explorer’s Enhanced Protection Mode (EPM). Either install the latest version of Adobe Reader or disable EPM in Internet Explorer"

The reason is that after the installation of Acrobat, it is the default reader, which doesn't support EPM.

In patch 11.0.06 I see this

"3679617 Reader fails to load in IE11 when both Reader and Acrobat are installed - IE displays a message asking the user to disable EPM."

So does this mean that it isn't fixed? Just that it gives the error message?

I have also tried the latest patches  11.0.12 and 11.0.13 we still get the same error (according to https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/epm-support-acrobat-products.html).

We have also tried to follow the guide here:

https://www.itsupportguides.com/windows-7/adobe-pdfs-wont-open-in-internet-explorer/

With "Solution 3" - to repair adobe reader so it becomes the default reader.

However this first works, but when the user then again starts Adobe Acrobat, it again overwrites the settings and becomes the default reader in all software - and again we get the fault message described above.

  • What is Adobe's suggested solution to this problem?
  • Are there any setting that makes it possible to override that Adobe reader always is the default reader in IE11?

Versions are:

  • Acrobat reader DC 2015 (15)
  • Acrobat Pro och standard XI, patch 11.0.13
  • Windows 7

I'm very grateful for getting any input or help concerning this issue
