If DSIM is not working (the supported method you must use), post the details about what you did and what the result is.

Did not work sorry. Tested and same result.

1. installed adobe dc with command: Setup.exe  /sALL/msiROAMIDENTITY=1ROAMLICENSING=1

2. did not open adobe dc as advised from documentation

Note

Unlike serialized deployments, do not launch Acrobat on the master image.

3. installed adobe reader. Installed as default PDF handler

4. Shut down and took a snapshot of the master image.

5. Test user with previous defaults as PDF reader logs in to new master image.

6. PDF default is automatically set to Adobe DC

This is starting to do my head in, any other ideas?

It's still not clear that you're following the documented instructions. You quote something about running an exe above, but that's not in the published doc. Here are the steps:

1: If you're working on the same machine all this time, uninstall everything. Consider running the Acrobat Cleaner.

2: Use DSIM to set the viewer: Setting the Default PDF Viewer — Enterprise Administration Guide

3. Create the master image and perform all the steps here: Common Deployment Options — Enterprise Administration Guide .

4. If the requisite UserSpecificLicensing keys do not exist, create them manually.

Don't skip any steps or use other suggestions from forum posts.

I was hoping not to use DISM, as I am not needing to enforce file type associations. I am happy for users to select and use what they want. It seems like a fair bit of work just to have users keep there current defaults.

Hmm, any particular reason you only just switched to a product that is already EOL and out of support?

I wish I could give you the really long answer to that but I think it best to summarize it as that decision is made by another IT team and they're directed to package applications as directed by someone who gets paid a lot more than both of us combined.

We did however boil it down to a driver versioning issue: The citrix server was running 2012 and the UPD with Xenapp 7.5 doesn't seem compatible with the WIn 7 Adobe PDF printer driver.

We're currently working on packaging and deploying CutePDF writer for any clients that are looking for just document to PDF conversion and not requiring the full blown PDF authorizing suite that Acrobat provides.

If you were using the current version I'd refer you to the Acrobat Enterprise Deployment Guide, but a lot changed after XI, so I think that would be counterproductive. Glad you have a solution.

Re: Devactivate Acrobat XI on 1 of a 2 user License

Hello Rickk,

Sorry for the delayed response and inconvenience caused. As per the description above, you want to deactivate the Acrobat 11 from one machine so that you can install and activate it on another machine, Is that correct?

For Volume Licensing software you may simply uninstall the software as it will not give you any activation issue when you try to install it back. Make sure that you download the Acrobat setup from the Volume Licensing website that is https://licensing2.adobe.com, log in using the email address which is associated with the Volume license order of Acrobat 11.

Install the software on the new machine and use the serial key for activation.

For detailed information about Adobe Volume Licensing website, please refer to Adobe article Adobe Licensing Website | Serial numbers, orders, and accounts

However, You just need to ensure that EULA is not violated while software installation. For detailed information, please refer to Adobe end-user license agreements FAQ

For perpetual license (Volume and retail) if you purchase a single seat for any Adobe software you can install it on two machines but cannot use it simultaneously on both the machines but instead one at a time.

Feel free to update this discussion for any further assistance.

Regards,

Anand Sri.

Hello Meghanh,

Sorry for the delayed response and inconvenience caused. As per the description above, you are getting an error message that you don't have a license of Acrobat or it's expired or deactivated and not able to print to Adobe PDF, Is that correct?

Please sign out and sign back in Acrobat using your current Adobe ID and password and reboot the machine once and see if this brings any difference.

Check for any pending updates of Acrobat from help>check for updates, reboot the machine and see if this brings any difference.

You can remove/uninstall Adobe PDF Printer and then can add it back, to add Adobe PDF Printer, refer to the steps mentioned here Adobe PDF not showing up as a printer

You may also refer to and try the suggestions from the following Adobe article Troubleshoot PDF printing in Acrobat and Reader

If you experience the issue again, please share the following details:

That's probably a good GPO environment solution, would be nice to have it included in the Acrobat settings as well, for individual users. This is quite common in software that offers to use shell extensions..

Customization Wizard DC - Help Conflicts With Web Site

Seeing conflicts between registry locations in the Customization Wizard and the web site.  I found these because I followed the documentation in the Wizard and it works for Acrobat DC 2015 and does not work for Reader DC 2015.  I guess this is due to "Note: This preference is not respected for any Reader 10.x version with Protected Mode enabled. There is also a bug in DC products which prevents setting permissions via tBuiltInPermsList." that is documented in the web site with the conflicting doco.  Has anyone successfully used the tBuiltInPermList to keep their company safe by only whitelisting the extensions needed?

Wizard Doco:

[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\<product name>\<version>\FeatureLockDown\cDefaultLaunchAttachmentPerms] "tBuiltInPermList"

Web Site Attachments

HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Adobe\(product name)\(version)\FeatureLockdown\cDefaultLaunchAttachmentPerms

I have Acrobat Reader DC. I see no info beyond that when I open. It is operating on Windows. Also, I am locked out entirely now. When I open the program a white screen with four recurring blue squares intercedes. I believe it is trying to fix the compatibility issue, but seems unable to complete task. It has been awhile since I got involved trying to fix this so I am confused as to what I may have done. In my notes I see “Acrobat PDF Browser is missing. Please reinstall AB Reader to fix” but don’t know if I tried to do that. I may have check the drop down box on my Windows screen to fix compatibility problem. Sorry for my confusion. I would appreciate help.

Also, I do have Norton security, identity and antivirus protection. Could that be a problem? Is it possible for someone on staff to have a shared session on line with me and analyze the problem?

Hello Rogers,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused, please use Acrobat cleaner tool to remove Adobe Reader once Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

Reboot the machine and install Adobe Reader from Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution

If the issue still persists, please create a test user profile with full admin rights and install Adobe Reader DC and check if the issue is reproducible .

If possible, disable the Norton Security software for some time and check the functionality of Adobe Reader. Enable the Security software back.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Anand Sri.

I have an Adobe Enterprise license and my users are STILL forcibly prompted to sign in at every launch.

What can be done to stop this insane behavior?
