Re: Verify License of Acrobat Pro DC via Registry or Other Method

I get that. I know it’s a Subscription, and the SWID Tag info page helped explain the different tags and the associated version of the software.

I want to know the email address it’s associated with. On my computer, I can go into Acrobat and look under the Help Menu very easily – it currently reads “Sign Out (t**@**.com). For computers that I support that are remote to me, I don’t want to have to remotely connect to each computer, open the Application, and check the Help Menu if I can identify the ‘who’ via a file or registry key.

I’ve got some people that are of the mindset that this software can be installed an unlimited number of times. While this is true – that it can be installed again and again – the issue is that the 3rd install deactivates the 1st, the 4th deactivates the 2nd, 5th deactivates the 3rd, etc. etc. etc. Or in the case where my documentation doesn’t tell me that joe@domain.com’s<mailto:joe@domain.com's> license is on JOE-PC and JOE-LAPTOP, I want to be able to figure that out without getting in the user’s way if I don’t have to.

That's beyond the scope of what you can find out from SWID tag file or the LEID.   It sounds like you almost want to track the User's usage and location.  I don't have a suggestion for you with that type of question.

Seriously,

is this some sort of taboo question I have asked here? In over a month, I have not gotten any response to what I feel is a rather legitimate question. There have been tons of other posts that have all gotten looked at / responses however I have even PM'd staff members I have hunted down from other posts and they tell me I shouldn't ask this type of question in the forums... yet when I open a chat, it is useless as they don't understand the question, refuse to look at the post and then tell me to post in the forums anyway.

MAY I PLEASE JUST GET SOME SORT OF CLARIFICATION?

Acrobat DC 19.8.20080.44583 crashing on Windows 7

Good afternoon all,

We are having an issue with Adobe acrobat DC. We are able to launch the application as a user. We get the splash screen with the tour option. We close this and try to open a pdf document. The document opens and and after a few seconds, the application crashes with the following error -

Problem signature:

  Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

  Application Name: Acrobat.exe

  Application Version: 19.8.20080.44583

  Application Timestamp: 5bca525b

  Fault Module Name: ucrtbase.DLL

  Fault Module Version: 10.0.10586.1412

  Fault Module Timestamp: 5a64613e

  Exception Code: 40000015

  Exception Offset: 0008480a

  OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.4

  Locale ID: 1033

  Additional Information 1: 1e92

  Additional Information 2: 1e923e5dcc4311ea3a0cf01d084a9b5d

  Additional Information 3: 8f08

  Additional Information 4: 8f08d1a00eeaaa3c8c9f50cca7c51704

I have looked online for information on this issue. I have tried a reg key to disable protected mode, creating folders in the c:\Users\username\appdata\local\ (forget the rest of the path). These are not protected documents. This started happening after the installation of adobe updates. Acrobat DC worked fine up until mid september, 2018.

Any information is greatly appreciated,

Good morning,

That's not an option. This is happening to users on our network.

Any other suggestions? .

I'll give your question a shot, but you're asking questions (good ones) about a legal document and the helpers here tend to do better at technical answers. So I'll partially answer with what I think I know, and if that's not helpful, I'll forward your questions to someone who might do better.

  • Reader is free and not much is required. Just fill out the dist agreement and do what you need to do for your company.
  • There is no requirement to upgrade any product under any scenario. What you do wrt updates for both Acrobat and Reader is up to you.
  • You can run previous versions of any product at any time, even those that are end of lifed (same as previous bullet). It's not recommended for security and other reasons, but it's up to you.
  • The sentence regarding "reproduction" does not apply to you. It's saying what Adobe does. If you want details, you'd be better off looking at the product end of life document as well as the Admin Guide which details versioning and updates.  If you think there's something you should care about wrt to versioning and updates post back.

I don't know about audits and record keeping. You need to know what you have installed on each machine anyway. Keep track of that and the install date. Make sure you have a license for every user that has access to Acrobat.

If you need more detail, post back with specific questions and I'll try to track it down.

How can I modify he tool panes shortcut for enterprise deployment

I am using the customization wizard to create a transform and deploy Acrobat Pro 2017 to our enterprise. They would like a tool shortcut added for everyone. In the online guide (quoted below) it says it can be done but does not say how. Does anyone know how this can be done?

Enabling Tools pane shortcuts

A select list of tools in the Tools tab also have shortcuts in the right-hand pane. End users can modify this list by opening the drop down list under a tools and choosing Add/Remove Shortcut. Admins can preconfigure the right-hand pane tools shortcuts prior to deployment so that users have easy access to the tools they are most likely to use.

Acrobat Pro DC install on VMware linked clone desktop

How do I install / configure this so that users are not pushed to create Adobe accounts?

I have a View 7.4 environment, linked clones that are in a fixed pool - that is, a user is assigned to only their 1 desktop.  Still running Windows 7 currently, but will be upgrading to 10 in 1Q 2019.  Need to get this added for all users.

Thank you tons for your effort, I don't think I have anymore as that is just about what I was expecting to keep track of what, when and where for the install. I am a networking consultant but trying to do some favors for a certain client regarding their environment and some licensing concerns and this is new to me. In this scenario, we're only dealing with free stuff here (flash and reader).. but I am a very  "By the letter of the law" in my work if you will, and try to follow my agreements precisely and not just obtain them.

Thanks again!

The Tools panel in the Adobe Customization Wizard DC is the tool that edits the package so that you can set this up.

That only list a small set of tools that can be shown or disabled not the full set of tools. For instance I want the Digital Signature tool to be available on the tools menu for all my users. That is not listed in the example above.

It's the Certificates app and it's the third item on the list.

Thanks Steve. I see that that area has Digitally Sign but the tool I was looking for is Digital Signature. After playing around with it that tool may work for our end users. I will have to run it by them first. Thanks for your help I appreciate it.

Re: adobe dc pro install patch update to customized install

Hi there,

This might help...

https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Wizard/Customization%20Wizard%2011%20fo r%20Windows.pdf

Page 2, section 1.3

1.3 MST usage

  • Once an MST is applied during an install another MST can't be used later during an update (say, to change one setting).
  • The way the Windows Installer Technology works is that during an update or repair, the installer references the MST file that the installation used when it was first installed.
  • The only way to use another MST it to uninstall the product and then reinstall with a new MST file.

So, by the sounds of it...

  1. You have previously deployed a version of Acrobat with an MST applied?
  2. You are trying to upgrade that previous install with a new patch?
  3. While you are attempting the upgrade, you are also attempting to apply a new MST?

According to the docs, this isn't possible and you might need to run an uninstall/reinstall with the new MST.

I haven't tried this myself yet, but hoping that the above info helps.
