Re: Acrobat 2017 Pro Fails to automatically upgrade with 1706 error

A few notes-

1. The only registry value that is set correctly is iLogLevel. The rest can be removed.

2. Can you please remove posted log sample and instead send me full AdobeARM.log files from User\Temp folder and Windows\Temp folder?

3. The Source referenced in the error is what MSI (Microsoft Installer) Engine needs to successfully update. In relation to Acrobat, it is original base installer, namely AcroPro.msi (installer database) and Data1.cab (file archive)

If you are able to update from Acrobat menu, but auto update fails running in the System context, this suggest that Source actually exists, but not available to the process running in the System context. Can you check if original Acrobat sources are cached under path that looks like this - C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 2017\Setup Files\[GUID] ?

Alternatively, you can download AcroSize.exe tool from

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ag0rlOL2mZfQFmLWPpBx-GTSVVfZipaN/view?usp=sharing

Run it, select "Start Acrobat" button, wait for several seconds and send me AcroSize.log file from User\Temp folder?

Leo,

Thank you very much for the detailed description of what is going on with our setups.   I can provide additional logs of what's going on, but I might be able to resolve this myself quicker if there was a way to get the updater service to attempt to update more frequently on my test machine.   I found the folder you mentioned in Step 3 above, and populated it with the original .msi and .dat file to see if that will allow the upgrade to proceed.

Separately I found that the uninstall path listed in"

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{AC76BA 86-1033-FFFF-7760-0E1108756300}\InstallSource"  Was pointing to a UNC path rather than our install location (a mapped drive on our network).   It may be that the ARM service can't access this location but we can work around that if all that is needed is the original install files to be present locally in order to preform the upgrade.  Either that, or the machine account would need access to that network drive in order to complete its upgrade.

Anyways, if you can assist by pointing out what registry key is responsible for the update timer, I will likely solve this on my own.   If your feeling up to it, I have a webex meeting room we can use where I can share one of the test machines we have here that shows this issue.      Current log is below, shows we are stuck @ version .96, with the same 1706 issue going on:

Hi mc900fthanna,

Can you please remove log file content from the thread? It is helpful, but I'd prefer to get logs complete in the private message.

Posting here makes the thread hard to read.

Regarding Sources - you can read more about "Source resiliency" here - Source Resiliency Policy - Windows applications | Microsoft Docs

Make sure that the installer files you copied are correct original files, and AcroPro.msi has valid digital signature.

Normally Source registration managed by MSI. I cannot officially support adding Source info manually.

Registry location in your case will be

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\68AB67CA3301FFFF7706E01180573600\So urceList\Net

where 68AB67CA3301FFFF7706E01180573600 is converted ProductCode value {AC76BA86-1033-FFFF-7760-0E1108756300}

Regarding Updater- after Source info is set, you can delete

tLastError_Acrobat value from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\Adobe ARM\1.0\ARM

tLastT_Acrobat value from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe ARM\1.0\ARM

Launch AdobeARM.exe manually from C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0

Wait while all AdobeARM.exe processes finished, which in case of patch installation might take up to 15 minutes, and check if product was updated. Send me all logs privately if you still have issues.

Good luck

The form was created in LiveCycle Designer.  It has permissions on it so that Acrobat cannot edit it.  Adobe LiveCycle Designer was last installed with Acrobat X.   So either you had a version of Acrobat X or someone you worked with had a version of Acrobat X and created this form for you.  Adobe LiveCycle Designer is now part of AEM Server products.

Tools pane customization (DC) question

$

0

Hi,

At Tools Customization (DC) , it says:

Add entries with a key and tool name under cDisabled to remove tools. For example:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Adobe\(productname)\(version)\FeatureLockDown\cAcroApp\cDisabled] "a0"="CreatePDFApp" "a1"="CommentApp" "a2"="PagesApp"

What the "a0"="CreatePDFApp" means?

Does it mean to create a Key named a0 under cDisabled on the left and then move to the right to set Name: Default's Data to CreatePDFApp?

Or does it mean under cDisabled, go to the right, right click, choose New/String Value, set Name to a0 and Data to CreatePDFApp?

Thank you for help.

Windows Server 2016 Adobe Acrobat Pro 2017 EULA always popping up on startup

$

Hello Adobe Customer Support,

i´ve got a problem within our Windwos Server 2016 environment.

We recently installed Adobe Acrobat Pro 2017 for our customers on Windows Server 2016 systems.

The licences were bought by our customers directly at your shop and then transmitted to us, to install the Software.

The Licences are all User-specific with own UserIDs.

Now every time a user is logging on to our systems and starting the Adobe Acrobat 2017 Pro the programm opens.

But after a few seconds the start-screen closes and the window for the confirmation of the EULA opens and you have to click on "accept".

This is very nerve wrecking because the users have to agree each time they log on.

The other problem is, that even if they log on with their individual UserIDs, theses datas won´t save on logoff and also have to be entered every time they log on.

I have already tried following possibilities:

- Uninstalling and reinstalling the program

- execute a repair-installation over the button help

- delete the _LicenceAgreement.xml in the programs folder

- set the EULA registry key under Users\Software\Adobe\Acrobat... to "1"

- delete the whole user registry key of Adobe

None of the above ways seemd to solve the problem.

Please help!!

Reader DC Appv Package crash.

Hello,

I'm trying to sequence Acrobat Reader DC with AppV 5.1
I followed the deploiment guide : https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/VirtualizationGuide/appvreaderDC.html

Everything seems to works well, I put my package on my app-v server, publish it in global mode and when I try to open the app : it keeps crashing.

I found some tips on technet forum asking to disable arm service (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/f4358ecb-72ad-4cfa-9498-8d7009db 3d7b/error-when-starting-adobe-reader-11-appv-package?forum=mdopappv ) but I got the same issue.

After checking the Event log I don't understand how to fix the issue (error log at the end of the post)

Anyone got some idea ?

Thanks,
Nicolas.

Ahh yes, nitro fun lol.

Have you used the customization tool to edit the default MSI settings yet?  You just open the customization wizard, go to file-open and open the MSI, and you can change a lot of settings from in there.

I ended up installing adobe and tweaking the registry keys that I mentioned.  Then, I use the Adobe install as a dependency for a Nitro repair (this way, it installs the newest adobe DC, repairs nitro which re-sets nitro as the default application).  THEN, after the repair, I delete the following two registry keys (need to be deleted with a system account, can be tested with PSexec).

del /f "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\AcroPDF.dll"

del /f "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\AcroPDF64.dll"

This ensures that Adobe's IE add-in doesn't come back.

So unnecessarily complicated, but this is what worked for me.  It seems like this is something Adobe could EASILY put in their customization Wizard, but alas, here we are.

Good luck!

What is the best way to administrate multiple licenses of acrobat pro?

$

Hello,
i want to deploy four copys of adobe acrobat pro to specific computers / employes but still be able to have controll over the licenses. I already have the four licences so switching to a cloud product is no option for me. Is it possible to registrate all copys on a single adobe id or do i need an enterprise id? Does every employee need an own adobe id or can i deploy acrobat without the user noticing anything about adobe accounts?

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Sounds like you have a desktop product to install and cloud services are likely included -- having a "cloud product" is not relevant here. What is relevant is your license and track.

As a wild guess based on little information, I bet you have the Continuous track and need to use named user licensing. Your end users need to log in, and you can manage users and some features via the Admin Console. But, I also don't know what you mean by "manage". It may be you're only asking about how to license the product for each user. . .

If you have serial numbers, you need use those--one for each product if that's what you have (4). If you had a volume serial, you'd only need one, but it seems you don't.

Post back with more q's if that doesn't get you started.

We should consider the possibility that you have four RETAIL licenses to Acrobat DC, rather than licenses made for team or enterprise. In this case, the licenses are individual and are controlled by the individuals who install it. Each user must use their OWN Adobe ID, which THEY control and have the password. If they leave the company it will go with them - certainly you (as the purchaser) have no rights over it, to transfer it etc.

Privileged Locations doesn't seem to work with this version as it did in reader 11.x

I have used the deployment wizard and put in the folder path, also tried file name

however each time the pdf file that I want opened on a file share it will give me the security warning

do you want to continue and I have to press allow

This worked great in reader 11 but not in reader 2017 dc classic

using the customization wizard

during reader install I can check the register and those entries are there but it doesn't work

Different versions in different languages

Hi All,

For Enterprise deployment we always use the enterprise download of the Reader from Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution . The latest update (Reader DC 2019.010.20098) is only available in English and not in the for my disired language (Dutch). The highest Dutch version that can be downloaded is Reader DC 2019.008.20071. Does anyone know why the version in English is higher then the others?? I really like to have version Reader DC 2019.010.20098 in Dutch.

Thank you in advance.

John,

Here goes...

- "a0" is the zero index entry.

- "CreatePDFApp" value and  is the name of the tool that is to be disabled.

It looks something like this screenshot of the Windows Registry:

Screen Shot 2019-03-25 at 1.26.10 PM.png

The Windows Registry file looks something like this in Notepad when edited:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\DC\FeatureLockDown\cAcroApp\cDisabled]

"a0"="CreatePDFApp"

"a1"="CommentApp"

"a2"="PagesApp"
